Due to the lack of functionality in the MW2 mod's weapon system (you don't notice it without admin), and because I sort of get the feeling that the weapons are unbalanced, I had a new idea to try. Our old BF2 mod was all CSDM weapons, meaning any weapon available at any time. That was cool and all, but I sort of got the feeling that there was no real earning anything in that mod (besides buying the occasional AWP). Our old CoD server used a different system that was basically you get a class, and the higher level you are, the better the class gets.
My idea is fairly simple, well thought out, and creative. Basically there will be X amount of classes (no definite number yet, thinking somewhere near . Each class will have X amount of tiers (again, no definite answer to how many, thinking about 3-5). Each tier is basically better versions of the same class. I want to make all classes fairly easy to unlock in the beginning so that all people sort of gain their weapons, but still have to work at least a little bit for them. A addition to this idea is custom weapons. I wanted to make each class themed, like a Soldier class, a Sniper class, Demolitions class, and all weapons would sort of have a theme as well. My example that I gave the people I've talked with so far is this: the "Rifleman" class would start out with a Famas at tier one, and maybe his tier 2 class would have a M16 that would be like the Famas, but maybe with some small changes (not better exactly, but different allocations of good things and bad things).
Again, the cool part with this system is that I can add new weapons into counter-strike, and they will make sense with their classes. Each tier will be unlockable at an even number of levels (ie 6, 12, 18, 24...), and there will be 50 levels max. 50 is the number I would like to have, but this might change, it just seems like a good number for now. The XP system will be based off of the MW2 system, but its totally redone to work smoother and more efficiently.
This is really all I want to say for now, there are lots more things I could add, but I'd rather keep them secret for a while, while I work them out more. I just wanted to mention parts of my idea for the weapon/class system and see how you guys would respond before I actually begin working on it. If anyone does think they have improvements, additional ideas, or ideas for a completely new system, I'm all ears...
Edit: If this idea is finalized and the majority of people like it, start thinking up classes and their weapons (existing in CS, or new to be added). Don't post them yet though, wait until we have this idea approved. I have a general idea for about 4-5 already, but the more the better.
