The next big thing Empty The next big thing

Post by Tirant Wed 27 Oct 2010, 3:50 am

Alright, so I'm in the mood to try and code a new mod, or redo an old one. Over the next day or so, I'll try and post some ideas here about what I could attempt, and you guys are free to comment/vote on any of them, or post some of your own. Most of these are already made or somewhat thought out by yours truly, but others are sorta ideas I'm bouncing off you guys..

    Fortmod (made)
Many of you have played the old version of this, but I'll repeat what it is. Basically this mod is based off of the HL2 mod oddly named SourceForts. Both teams are changed in to Red VS. Blue, and you play to capture the flag. The catch is that the mod has some Base Builder aspects. Before the round starts, each team has 1 minute or so to build a basic barricade defense strategy to blatantly block their flag and leave a path so they can capture the enemies. Walls can be destroyed, upgraded, and healed by engineers. Then you have a class system during the rounds where players can play with different classes similar to TFC that specialize in certain aspects, such as running really fast, but lower HP, or lots of bullets and health, but slow movement speed.

    Barricade (made)
A few of you got the chance to try this mod out before. It was going to be the replacement for Base Builder, but then I ran into some blockages that stopped production. Barricade is based off of CS:S ZM and Base Builder because you can move basic objects in the maps to form a rough sketch of your barricade, but then you finish it off by building as many objects as possible to blatantly make it impossible to get in your base (a fond thing people like to do in base builder apparently). Basically, this is an infection mod, so if someone in your base gets tagged, then they can get everyone in the base. You don't know if you will be infected until it happens either, so it makes basing somewhat stressful. You can also heal your walls by slashing them.

Sniper Mod (made, but will remake completely)
A mod I was rather fond of, but I never really had the skill set to pull it off how I wanted it when I first created it. This is a very simple mod where the goal is to hunt down the enemy silently (not awp map status). The maps will be large, with props, even some other normal maps with bushes and stuff. I would like to make it upgradable, maybe a shop to buy ghillie suits, upgrade snipers, but new snipers. Add things, possibly killstreaks like UAV from MW2 mod. Stuff to make it interesting.

Dawn of the Dead (3rd Generation) (made)
I started creating this in the early summer when the clan was falling apart. I have a really solid base created, but I could never come up with a closer. This mod had a gun smith and money system to upgrade and buy weapons. Basically, after upgrading the M3 so much, it turns into a Winchester 1887. This was a zombie defense mod, but should be converted into something similar to Z-Day (2nd Generation) gameplay. We could test this, I always like this, but I like all my mods, lol. The way I think though, bots aren't intelligent enough in cstrike to make this an extremely fun mod, so I think adding PvP capabilities would be fun if I could implement it in a tasteful way, but maybe it doesn't fit the mod.

    Z-Day (2nd Generation) (made)
No introduction needed. Most have seen it or played it. If you don't know what it is, look up the videos on YouTube I made. If I remade this, like DotD, I need to make it lead somewhere. Killing zombies is fun, but there needs to be more cream filling in this pastry to make it exciting enough for people to want to play it more then once.

Base Defender (made, or easy to put together)
Sadly enough, the predecessor to Base Builder. This guy was only on for a weekend while I was finishing up code for base builder and thinking up ideas for fortmod. This was essentially normal Counter-Strike, but with a Base Builder appeal. Both sides had objects to move, and you'd basically make your own walls or areas and then fight it out to the last man. If redone, we'd have to rethink a goal and weed out just blocking the entire bases (although item limitation is on the table).

Laser Tag (idea, but shouldn't be hard once thought out)
I mentioned this to Sirvalence a couple days ago. This was just sorta a real quick clear idea (what Base Builder was). The idea is simple, kill enemies, kill the base, most points at the timer wins. If you don't know what laser tag is, go out this Saturday and play it. Basically, maps are dark and neony. Players don't "kill" enemies, but they stun them and make it so their guns don't work (think recovery, or shield regeneration). Guns shoot lasers ingame. The point is to get into the other teams base and shoot their target until it dies and gives points (maybe lights go off?). Rather simple idea, and could make to be a fun mod I think.

Future Warfare (tested beta, needs to be thought out)
I was sorta inspired from this idea after watching starship troopers and the halo odst commercial where the dude drops into the fight. This idea, like DotD would be fun, but fail because there is no juice in it to make ppl want more. Basically, lasers, fast paced gameplay, drop into the fight, kill kill kill. The goal for this mod is to be king of the hill for a time.

SWAT Mod (No testing, but clear image in the head)
Once again, kind of a rough idea, but could end up being fun. The idea here is fairly simple. You ever watch the movies where swap trains for home invasions? Same idea. Basically, I guess the idea is to make maps as small as possible (maybe a house), and then terrorists get a few seconds to position themselves. After that time, the CTs, basically shoot to open the doors and take down the enemies (and rescue the hostages). Basically, you'll receive a few different scores: time, kills, hostages wounded. Sorta like what CS should've been but never was.

Mario Mod (beta test, had problems, but might be kinda cool)
I had this idea a couple weeks ago and I did a rough test. It needed some work, but I think I can make it work. Basically, the idea is to change your perception of CS 1.6. Instead of playing first person, you play viewing from the side of the map. You then use your wasd pad and control your character and jump across platforms. Maybe this can be reworked in first person, or maybe it can end up being like a fy_ runemod/super smash brothers thing.

Mario Party Mod (just an idea)
Just and idea I thought up. Jailbreak is gay, some of you know how much I hate it. I think taking orders from other people in a game is fucking retarted. Basically, in this mod, I would like to just make a bunch of like minigames like in mario party. I'm not sure what it would be like, or what it would included, or what kind of games I could even make, but would something like this be cool?

Deathmatch Advanced (idea, but I know a mod that can make it happen)
No one plays HL1 anymore, so why not remake something like it in CS? A mod where custom, weapons litter the maps in areas (csdm itemmode status). The goal is to just be #1. You can use a Minigun, Bazooka, whatever you want to get the job done.

Well, I need one mod to try and make. I don't want to put a lot of time into a shitload of other ones.

SWAT mod could be like, your score is based off of where you shot them also, and with hot many bullets. Basically a mod that would make CS really tactical.

Future Warfare suggestion? (or even Crysis mod)

    okay obviously cool maps/guns
    IF POSSIBLE, crysis menu?
Max speed: run faster for 3 seconds
Max armor: turns ur armor 150 (passive probably)
Max Strength: turns gravity for you 300, limited to 3 jumps every 20 seconds
Cloak: turns you invisible knife only for 5 - 10 seconds (after the time period end automatically switches back to the weapon that was used before the cloak hotkey pressed)

They're just ideas, Just some cool ideas straight out of my head from crysis converted into counter-strike preferences

I'm not a modder neither do i know how they work (but i do own an auto HnS server) If its not possible its an idea for the future.

The maps for a SWAT-style mod would be very simple and easy to make. We're talking making simple house designs which I bet I could manage in very little time. Maybe it could work like a gun game also, like you choose your class at the beginning of the map and rank up through it every map through kills.

I like your idea for the Future Warfare mod. Sorta add in things from like runemod right?

Anything similar to Zombie Plague 4.3 with Menu upgrades and bank. If you have any ideas like that, I'd be hooked onto your servers like a ****************

Mario sounds nice too. Perhaps a Mario/Hentai map with different traps and stuff. Perhaps Kz but easier without any strafing and uh.. You can WOW..

Zombie or Mario or SuperSmashBros ^_^

    Sort of yeah.

Maybe even, you have the 4 items (the powerups), u can bind them to use them and ones you use them they disappear, you have to find them scattered around the map.

I'm also thinking it might be time for a zombie plague style mod maybe. ZP is a good mod to base entire community off of, I mean, many have been created solely because of it. So basically, if I made us a ZP server, I would take the mod and make it our own. I could create completely custom zombie classes like nothing you've ever seen before. My only problem with ZP, is that I think fighting zombies that have thousands of HP is stupid.

I'm gonna keep this short on one of the mods I liked, DotD.
    - The version after the set amount of zombies one didn't have spawn protection. To me, that was a major factor in its declining popularity. On a side note, was it called DotD when it had 200 or so zombies to spawn?
    - Some of the achievements were near impossible to get due to the zombie amount being dependent on player amount, resulting in amount of kills necessary in a round being higher than the amount of zombies in a round.
    - Adding El Gigante was cool, even after you've killed it lots of times, it was still fun when he was out. I just thought of something he could do. He could have like a "stomp" move, where the move shakes the ground, obviously, causing nearby players to be slowed down and also moved in random directions, possibly knocking off anybody camping on a ledge lol. He could use it after his hp has fallen down to a certain amount or something, but just once as I think two or more might be too much. Maybe it could be used before he appears too, after a certain amount of zombies is killed, a message could say, "Something is coming...", then a weaker stomp move occurs, "Something big...", lol. Ok stupid brain is happy I shared it.
    - Don't really care for this idea, but have like a killstreak thing going or something, and you get a special gun for a short period. Like a gun from half-life or something.

Laser tag could work too, but I think it would need at least three teams to be cool, if thats possible. Two teams might just feel like a different packaging of CTF. But would still be fun even with two, especially with the dark maps and neon stuff haha. Our eyes might not be happy afterwards, though. Anyway, good luck in whatever you choose to do, just don't stress yourself over it.

    EVERYONE READ THIS please:

Swat mod sounds real good, i really want to see this mod. Easy to make and maintain i would think and possibly FUN AS HELL!

There's gonna be a few issues i could think of right off the bat like people spamming doors just as the round starts/entrance is made. Also might not want to have grenades active as this could be potentially one sided if you just fill the house with nades.. Again people positioning themselves in the house to spam the entrance points will happen so to help offset this there should be many entrances, doors/windows etc.. and obviously some other measures to ensure this works well. Also if possible have every door and window set up with a breach charge to begin with(windows should be border up or made so you can't see in or out), when the round starts, you take your positions around the house and set off the breach charges, The exploding doors and windows will ensure no one is waiting for you on the other side or they die, but this explosion shouldn't be to big.. The Breach charge works only once then the window or door will remain open until the round ends. Next round we start all over again..

i agree with pa.p.er as long as theres 200+ zombies on each round id play there forever and make the achivements extreamlly hard to get like uhh

    SmG 3500 easy 7500 med 15000 hard 30-100 + speed

    assault 10000 easy 15000 med 25000 hard 50-150 + hp

    sniper 1000 easy 3000 med 7500 hard scout/awp
